Welcome to OSU

Enrollment

If you have not already done so, contact the Oregon State University Office of Admissions and confirm your enrollment.  If you are a Naval ROTC Scholarship recipient, you should be exempt from paying the $200 Advance Tuition Deposit (ATD) which is normally required to confirm your spot in the incoming new student class.

University Housing

One of the many great things that OSU does to support ROTC is to provide a special interest living community for Army, Air Force and Naval ROTC students in Finley Hall.  Although not required, many of our midshipmen enjoy living together on the seventh floor.  There are many great housing choices on campus, but we have found that our midshipmen like living with those who have similar schedules and lifestyles, and they tend to be more successful.

Incoming freshman should Apply for Housing at the earliest possible date. Before you can receive a room assignment, you must register for a START orientation session. If you wish to select your own roommate, you must confirm your roommate matches through My College Roomie by May 31st.  If you do not confirm a roommate in My College Roomie, the University Housing and Dining staff will match you with a roommate.

Recommended Reading

We recommend reading The Strategic Student, by David Cass.  The book was originally published by Uvize Inc. in 2011.  The author is a former Navy officer and helicopter pilot who was an assistant professor and NROTC instructor.  He wrote this book to help high school students make a smooth transition from high school to college.

We also recommend browsing the OSU Academic Success Center for a wealth of time management and study strategies.  Find the ones that you think will work for you and come ready to succeed in college!

Bridge Programs

Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation (LSAMP).  Qualifying students are provided with financial, academic, social, and professional support in a coordinated effort to help them achieve their academic goals in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). Programming includes a residential bridge program for incoming freshman, mentor program, tutoring, workshops, a student center (123 Waldo Hall), and undergraduate research funding.

TRiO Student Support Services (SSS).  This selective program open to undergraduate OSU students who are first-generation college students (neither parent has a 4 year college degree) and/or low income.  TRiO SSS Summer Bridge is free program that usually lasts from 4 to 6 days and takes place just before the start of fall term.  During Summer Bridge, students living in the residence halls during their first academic year will be allowed to check in early and eat in campus dining halls at no charge. Activities include workshops, panels, tours, games, trips and exercises all developed to prepare students for academic success at OSU.  Incoming TRIO SSS students starting fall term must participate in the Summer Bridge Program and enroll in either the 1st Year Student Success Course (ALS 109) or the Transfer Transitions Course (UEXP 399) during Fall term. Students will receive 2 credits tuition free.
