Four years ago, the Naval ROTC class of 2017 began with over 50 midshipman candidates. The 19 that graduated this past weekend are those that have persevered. From late nights revising and studying for exams to early mornings consisting of physical training and ROTC classes, these graduates have sacrificed a lot in order to sit on this stage. On June 17, 2017, the Navy gained 14 Ensigns and the Marine Corps gained 5 2nd Lieutenants.

This year’s guest of honor was the Commander of the Navy Region Northwest, Rear Admiral Gary A. Mayes. Rear Admiral Mayes graduated from Purdue University and received his commission from Aviation Officer Candidate School in 1988. He administered the oath of office to the graduates and imparted some advice for their future careers in the Navy. Congratulations again to the new officers and good luck in your future endeavors.
