Captain Campbell is a native of Long Island, New York and attended the College of Aeronautics in New York City, followed by the State University of New York at Stony Brook earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in History. He was commissioned an Ensign in the United States Navy after completing Aviation Officer Candidate School in January, 1985 and was designated a Naval Flight Officer following training at the Naval Air Training Unit; Mather Air Force Base, Sacramento, California.
After completing Fleet Replacement training at VP-31, CAPT Campbell reported to his first assignment with Patrol Squadron NINETEEN at NAS Moffett Field, California where he served as NFO Training Officer, Assistant Training and Assistant Operations Officer completing deployments to Diego Garcia, BIOT and Misawa, Japan. During this tour he earned designation as a P-3C (U1) Tactical Coordinator (TACCO), Mission Commander, Instructor TACCO, NFO NATOPS Evaluator and was nominated as the Navy League Junior Officer of the Year.
In March 1990 CAPT Campbell reported for Fleet Replacement Squadron instructor duty at VP-31, NAS Moffett Field serving as Special Projects Officer and NFO Training Officer. He was designated as Commander Naval Air Forces Pacific P-3C NFO NATOPS Evaluator and developed the enhanced NFO Training Program in preparation for merger with the East Coast Fleet Replacement Squadron, VP-30, at NAS Jacksonville, Florida.
After completion of instructor duty at VP-31, CAPT Campbell was assigned to the Advanced Education Program and earned a Master of Arts degree in Education and Training Management at San Jose State University, San Jose, California.
CAPT Campbell was next assigned to the USS Abraham Lincoln at NAS Alameda, California where he served as the Operations Administration Officer and completed two deployments to the Arabian Gulf participating in Operations Southern Watch and Provide Hope off the coast of Somalia. He earned qualification as Tactical Action Officer, Ship's Weapons Coordinator, Anti-Surface Warfare Watch Officer, Assistant Command Duty Officer, and Officer of the Deck (inport).
After completing refresher FRS training, CAPT Campbell reported to Patrol Squadron FORTY SIX at NAS Whidbey Island, Washington where he completed a multi-site deployment to Misawa and Kadena, Japan and served as both the Training and Operations Officer.
Upon completion of his Department Head tour at VP-46, CAPT Campbell was assigned as the Training Officer for the P-3 Fleet Replacement Squadron, VP-30, at NAS Jacksonville, Fl. Following this tour he was assigned to the Office of the Chief of Naval Operations as the Deputy Executive Assistant to the Director of Naval Air Warfare (N78). At the conclusion of his assignment at OPNAV, he attended the Industrial College of the Armed Forces where he earned a Master of Science degree in National Resource Strategy.
CAPT Campbell reported back to VP-46 as Executive Officer in June 2002 and assumed Command of the Squadron in June, 2003. During his CO/XO tour, VP-46 provided Maritime Patrol and Reconnaissance support to COMUSNAVCENT throughout Operation Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom and earned the COMNAVAIRPAC Battle “E” for combat operations in both theaters.
Upon completion of his command tour CAPT Campbell was assigned as CTF-57 (FWD) in Bahrain and managed US and Coalition Maritime Patrol and Reconnaissance operations throughout the FIFTH FLT Area of Operations.
Most recently CAPT Campbell reported to United States Northern Command in Colorado Springs, CO. and was initially assigned as Chief for the J54 Maritime Defense Division and concluded his tour as the Operations Officer and Director of Training for the NORAD-USNORTHCOM Command Center. He is now assigned as the CO for NROTC at Oregon State University.
CAPT Campbell's awards include the Defense Superior Service medal, Meritorious Service Medal (4 awards), Air Medal (2 awards), Navy Commendation Medal (4 awards and Bronze “V”), the Navy Achievement Medal (2 awards), and various other personal and unit awards. |
