This Spring the Semper Fi platoon engaged in a Field Exercise (FEX) at Camp Najaf on June 7th. FEX's are responsible for helping ensure the Midshipman going to Officer Candidate School (OCS) in the summer are prepared for leading their fellow Marine options during the course of OCS, via the small unit leadership they practice.
This year the FEX consisted of Small Unit Leadership Exercises (SULEs), a leadership reaction course(LRC), a ruck run, and land navigation. The SULEs had scenarios which involved ambushes, Casualty Evacuation (CASEVAC), and a supply mission. This made the Midshipmen focus on their command and control during movements, along with buddy rushing.
With participation in these field exercises the Semper Fi platoon can practice those qualities that they will need in order to be better equipped as leaders and make decisions in a variety of environments.
