The Beaver Battalion hosted the annual Oregon State University NROTC Alumni Tailgater on 14 October 2017. The Alumni Tailgater gives current OSU NROTC students the opportunity to interact with alumni, friends, and family in order to share stories, experiences, and build camaraderie amongst Beaver Battalion members past and present.

Classrooms throughout the unit were decorated with up-to-date photos of Beaver Battalion involvements, unit activities, and various volunteer opportunities in which unit members have participated. Burgers and hot dogs were served as Battalion members and alumni shared sea stories and past times while playing corn hole. The highly anticipated dessert competition also took place, where a plethora of chocolate treats, pies, and sweets covered two whole tables.

Interim Commanding Officer, CDR Reidy, opened the tailgater with encouraging words with a specific emphasis on the importance of maintaining strong ties with our very accomplished alumni. Stan Smith (’72), the alumni group sponsor, presented awards to distinguished alumni of the Battalion and spoke of their various actions and contributions. During the ceremony, Capt. Dean H. Hattan USMC (RET.) was presented with the Combat Action Ribbon for his heroic actions while serving in the United States Marine Corps in Vietnam.

Alumni interested in reconnecting with the Beaver Battalion Alumni Group are encouraged to contact Stan Smith, the group coordinator.
